After several years of living in a fishbowl, I have finally found an economical window treatment that is fast and easy to make.
Each of the three shades cost about $9 for materials (fabric-$4; venetian blind-$3.50; glue; $1.50) If you decide to try making these, I recommend going with the "Fabritac" brand of glue. It costs a little more, but it bonds quickly and securely, making this project easy to finish in a couple of afternoons.
I used a heavy polyester. I had originally thought I would find a nice cotton print and iron on some fusable interfacing to give it a little weight and stiffness and R-factor, but then I found this material in the bargain bin at Walmart for $2 per yard. A savings in both cost and time. Benjamin Franklin would approve.

I love the versatility of the blinds. Here are a couple of different ways to open them:

Okay, I know, this is off topic, but isn't Mr Bingley adorable?
Those are great! I think I have to make some for our house - especially that little window at the bottom of our main stairs. It never looks right with curtains.
